Iran’s new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei is ‘in coma and has lost a leg’

A source who claimed to have contacts with the trauma team at the hospital where Mojtaba Khamenei is being treated said Iran’s Supreme Leader has ruptured his internal organs and lost a leg.

Iran’s new Supreme Leader is in a coma, according to reports.

Mojtaba Khamenei has lost at least one leg and has also suffered serious stomach or liver damage, it is claimed.

Citing a source in the Iranian capital Tehran, The Sun reported the new leader is currently under intensive care at the Sina University Hospital in the city’s historic quarter. Security forces have supposedly sealed off a section of the building.

The insider, who is said to have been in contact with a dissident based in London, is not a medic but knows members of the hospital’s trauma team. It is from there that he got his information, with hospital staff telling him that Mojtaba was in “very serious” condition under the care of Mohammad Reza Zafargjani.

As well as being Iran’s Minister of Health, Treatment and Medical Education, Zafargjani is also one of the country’s top trauma surgeons. The source said: “One or two of his legs have been cut off. His liver or stomach has also ruptured. He is apparently in a coma as well.”

It is not known whether Mojtaba Khamenei’s injuries were sustained in the same attack that killed his 86-year-old father at the opening of the conflict.
The news comes after Iranian state TV described Mojtaba as ‘janbaz’, or wounded by the enemy, during the ‘Ramadan war’, as the current conflict is known in Iran, during a broadcast announcing his appointment as ruler on Monday.

No detail was given on how he was injured although his wife and father were killed in Israeli strikes on Tehran on the first day of the conflict.

Images broadcast on Iranian state TV showed crowds chanting and waving flags on the streets of Tehran following the announcement of Mojtaba’s new role as leader. Chanting throngs were seen shouting “Allahu Akbar, Khamenei Rahbar”, meaning “God is great, Khamenei is the leader”.
